also - befriend the local farm mechanic / jack of all trades / retired but interested guy. they are a font of information and will be glad to show a younger guy the smart way to do things - like cutting universals out with a torch - your replacing them anyway & the heat makes the caps come out easier. welding a ring around a bearing race heats the races and the weld shrinks it enought to make it fall out with out any effort or pounding. soaking a stuck engine with kerosene and having the patience for it to soak in before trying to free it. there are 100s of things a local character can teach you. they enjoy teaching as much as you enjoy learning. i think a good page on the forum would be tricks of the trade used to keep the trucks running. the books mentioned and john zentmeyers interchange manual are the manifestos of dodge theology.
