sloppy shifter on ff pw

My shift lever in the transmisson tower of my B4 ff PW is very sloppy, I believe the little pin inside is broken. Anyone out there know how to check this and repair? The lever twists (rotates) from side to side too much to be acceptable. Any adive very much appreciated.
