On second thought, the salt on your feet theory would not account for rusty fenders, box, leaf springs, etc. So I think we are back to the drawing board to figure out why the left side is so much more rusted than the right.
I think the truck was parked with its left side in weeds and the right side on gravel. The weeds would contain moisture to make the rust grow.
Alternately, maybe the truck was parked with its left side up against a garage or something? So the right side dried off and the left side stayed moist?
