Hmm, that seems a little light to me considering that truck and trailer may approach 9000 or 10000 lbs. Figure that a Power Wagon weighs about 6000-6500 lbs and a good dual axle trailer with winch and spare up to about 3000 lbs. I'd take a close look at the towing guide for your model year of Explorer, Ford will give you one if you don't have it. Speed of towing is also a consideration; I have run all sorts of crazy rigs - slowley. There is a substantial difference between 15 MPH and 40 MPH and between 40 MPH and 60 MPH. Freeway speeds are very stressful and can create a variety of dangerous oscillation effects that can wreck major damage in a hurry.
