Earlier this week I was pulling a loaded car hauler on long grade with my new (to me) '01 Ram 2500. As my speed began to drop under 2000 rpms, I gave it more pedal and watched the temp gage. It moved up slightly and I waited for some surge from the turbo. The surge came within 5 seconds in a loud squall from under the hood. The speed continued to fall until I down shifted to 5th gear. Total time of heavy throttle was probably less than a minute--less than 10 seconds with the screech. RPMs never exceeded 2400.
The truck finished the trip with no more unusual noise, but the turbo seems a little more noisey when I punch above 2500 running unloaded now.
Can anybody tell me if I've put a permanent hurt on a still low-mile engine (23,000 miles)? The turbo and engine are still under warranty.
