Personally I have spent an irrational amount of $$$ to keep my 9 5/8 Chryslers. I have a matched set D70/D60 in crates but chose to keep the stock housings. I have upgraded the brakes(Ray's kit), axles(Daniel's axle front and rear), wheels(20" Chevy conversion ala Will L, via Bryan S.), all to keep the stock housings. Why? Because they are a key part of the truck for me, as is the frame. I would not do a body swap with the M37 but I have done this before (see above pic)using a Willys wagon body and an IH Scout chassis. It drives very nicely and was not difficult to do the body swap, just time consuming with lots of time spent thinking/planning.
One can save mucho $$$ by swapping an old body onto a newer chassis, I don't know about saving time/effort though.
