Ok - I'm a dummy, so here are some basic questions regarding the carb on my 1959 PW townie 318 Poly.
Symptoms
Has been running generally poor lately, lack of power climbing hills towing a load. Temps and fluids are fairly normal. Last week, coming down the hill, it started stalling as soon as I would put it in neutral and ease off the gas. I pulled out the remote idle ajust enough to keep the fire lit until I got home.
I kinda felt like a gas problem. Clear fuel filters are almost full and it responds as long as I am willing to keep my foot in it.
I took off the air filter while it was running and put my hand on the top of the carb with just a little space between my fingers and the idle speed INCREASED.
Kind of sounds like a vaccum leak. Got to looking a the back of the carb and found a hose inlet (see picture) with a piece of rubber on it. I pulled the piece of rubber off and as far as I can figure, it is either a rubber blocker meant to plug the pipe or it is a piece of rubber hose that has broken off and I can't find the hose or where it is supposed to go.
Can anyone identify this carb and whether I am supposed to block off this pipe or not.
I am guessing it is a Carter two barrel?
On a unrelated question, anyone have a Napa part number for a 318 poly valve cover gasket?
Thanks for the Help
Lonnie
