If you look at the top of the forums page, you will see a search button. Click on that and you will see that a variety of useful search methods are possible, including one that is by user name.

So, for example, someone could search for everything you have written... ever. Consequently, you will be able to easily check back to see what you have written, and you can find posts that you have made, and then refer people to them.
