help with question from previous forum

i am doing a helitool conversion using a 360 and the stock trans. i installed it as per the instructions. i hooked up the spring at the time of the install. if it comes undone, as it seems is possible, is it a problem? do you have to drop the trans to reattach it. what is its function?
