Shoulder Bolts, for example the shoulder will be 5/16 dia by a given length. The threaded end will be 1/4". This allows one to have a 5/16" by a given length pivot point, but only allowing the 1/4" nut to tighten to the 5/16 shoulder. This way a pivot point can be tightened but not bind in opertion.
The front cowl vent on my 1970 FFPW uses shoulder bolts for the pivot point.
