My '49 has 1/2 of a '39-'47 2 wheel drive truck cab. A previous owner cut the original cab at the A pillars and around the back of the cab (behind the seat) and did the same with the 2WD cab. Then welded them together. The result being a PW floor and firewall with a 2WD rear cab.
Looks pretty good except for the hole for the gas filler neck which is currently covered with a peice of sheet metal held on with about 10 sheet metal screws.
If your cab just has a bad roof, this might be an option.
As Dave pointed out, the big differences between the two cabs is the floor and the firewall. The floor is flat and the firewall is notched on the 2WD trucks. As you stated the rockers are shorter on the PW. I'm sure it's been done before, just not sure how easy it would be. If you're into repowering the truck the notch might provide a little extra room under the hood, it may not be where you want it, but extra room none the less!
