I just wanted to add that some people mistake the noise filter in the distributor (where the 24V ignition lead connects to the pin on the outside of the distributor). This is actually a capacitor. If you check it with a meter, the resistance will vary as the capacitor charges from the meter-supplied current. There is NO ignition resistor in an M37 distributor, unless it is an internal resistance wire in the primary circuit of the ignition coil itself.
