: What engine are you using in front of this transmission? Do you know, would a transmisson like this have the correct left side PTO for my winch and PTO? Also, how can I identify a transmission like this?
I was running a 318 in front of the NP540 tranny, but i'm now installing a 360. I'm using the old bellhousing. The NP540 has PTO ports on both sides. I used the left port to mount a Chelsea PTO unit to drive my MU2 winch. I use a cable shift for the PTO. The NP 541 and 542 are supposed to be easier to find parts for than the 540, which is older, but a bit lighter. I suppose the best way to ID these trannys is via the casting numbers. You'd want to find a list of tranny numbers.
