: With the 400 9mpg is about as good as it gets.
: You could try swapping carbs to a two barrel and
: knock back the timing 3-5 degrees, but then you
: might as well be driving a 318 truck. As for the
: locking hubs, the milage didn't seem to change on my 79, but I did notice less vibration when running over 65mph. If you do deside to go with the hubs don't forget the blocker kit for the transerfer case.
: : I have a 1977 Powerwagon all-time 4x4 club-cab with a 400 V-8 big block. If I made the conversion to locking hubs would i get better gas mileage. I heard it gets about 9 miles to the gallon now , what does anybody think it will get? Does ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS IF SO PLEASE WRITE BACK.
well for this if you have a 4 bbl and a stock cam and good compresion you need to set timming a 10 degrees initial and full at around 32 and stay out of the secondarys while driving
my 74 4x4with a 318 i get about 13 so 9 with a big block is not bad
