: I just bought a "53 M37 and the engine has a broken rod. I am interested in putiing in a 318. Do they bolt up t the original bell housing? What is needed? Will the clutch linkage be a problem?
The bellhousing for the flathead is different. Easiest thing to do is get motor, trans, etc from a donor vehicle. find one with the hydraulic clutch, then you can either use swinging pedals or mount a master cylinder under the floor board using the original pedal to actuate it. 59-60 Ford pedals work good in WC's and PW's for swingers if you choose that route. I don't know if the same is true for m-37's.
About a 68 dodge makes a good donor rig.
