Message:   Amazing how these Bail-out/Entitlement programs get cleverly shoved up the pipe in a different suit of clothes.

Here we have a very select few people who will directly benefit, as those that have a car to 'sell' to 'THE STATE', and of course 'THE STATE' government benefits too.

Disregard the negative impact on repair businesses, parts stores, parts, tire, battery etc. manufacturers, lost SMOG Compliance program fees, potential re-Registration fees, hundreds of industries mfg & selling older vehicle accessories, restoration businesses etc.

Disregard the amount of toxic & difficult waste generated from old batteries, lubricants, plastics, wire insulation etc. etc. crushed and rendered from these cars.

Also disregard the huge amount of precious energy required to fuel all of the crushing/re-cycling operation, and fuel to transport these vehicles, fuel to transport the 'scrap'.

Disregard all the pollution directly caused by that transportation and the scrapping process.

At a time with record numbers of people forced into unenmployment a program is presented to force people to buy new cars? With what?

These same unemployed are scrambling to make payments now, and many of their cars are getting reposessed, causing a glut of used cars. As it trickles down and the unemployed numbers grow, more and more are forced to turn to more affordable used cars. That means the clunkers at the bottom of the heap suddenly become worthy of a new consideration for those driven to no other choice$ left!

"Quick, we'll crush them first, then these stinky old polluters won't be on the road!"

Finally, as usual, the 'Entitlement' of the few 'clunker' car sellers is the Dis-Entitlment of the many: the American Taxpayer who foots the bill to pay all the many hidden expenses in the program, plus the management fees raked off the top by government, our friend.

It's yet another bailout but this time with government making all the real money off of it! As usual it's bait & switch, and all that will come of it is more huge problems for government to so very intelligently manage away for us, with a handling charge thrown in, again....

What does the taxpayer get in return for this expensive fiasco? Exactly nothing, zero, zip.
