Message:   It's a 2002 and the motors are 3.7 (not 3.9). The ride is quirky at first because the steering is so much quicker than the XJ. I'm used to it now and the larger tires and the springs I installed nake it better. I tried two different sets of springs before I found the ones that I liked. Getting that front strut out wasn't fun ...the first time (be sure to properly index the spring/strut assembly or you'll do it twice, that's a first hand tip...ha!ha!) The KJ actually has MORE interior volumn than the XJ BUT it's in unuseable height not length. It's wider than the XJ and the spare is outside, however the rear seat has more leg room than the XJ, which means the seat is moved back...and into the cargo space, which somehow ends up shorter than the XJ, in a LONGER vehicle...wierd! It still has more room with the second seats folded, BUT my gripe is that the seats do not fold flat for cargo useage. Jeep claims that they "fixed" that in the 2005 model, but I've looked at them and the seats are still slightly inclined, better but not correct, why a half assed fix???
My BIGGEST gripe is the position of the window buttons, on the center consol, NOT in the door. It's just plain STUPID (can you say mercedes influence?) The controls for items in the DOOR should be in the DOOR! I have not been able to hit those stupid buttons without looking EVER and that means taking your eyes off of the road. I've been driving it for 4 years and I still hate that feature. I can't say why she got such sucky fuel mileage, but the KJ is heavy and around town the mileage is about 14-16, it doesn't jump up to the mid twentys until you get on the Interstate and set the cruise. The new CRD is the way to go, over 30 mpg I hear, but it isn't available in CA, thanks to the enviromental nazis.
