Message:   John, the ecu doesn't send any voltage to the coil. The ecu works like the old points did. It's in the negative side of the coil circuit and it is simply an electronic switch that turns on and off to ground the negative side of the coil. This is a simplification of the action of the ecu as there is circuitry in it to control the dwell, but it is essentially a switch. If you hotwired it and there is still no spark then your pickup coil in the distributor might be bad, or the ecu is bad. Also you might have a broken wire somewhere in the circuit. Is it wired like picture 100 in the imageevent diagrams section? BTW, I went out and measured the voltage on my truck. With the ignition switch on but engine not running I had 6V at coil plus side and about 1v on the negative side. This was with everything connected up as normal.
