Message:   It's time for an automatic tranny filter change on the PT Cruiser so I got the filter at Pep Boys, but couldn't find the type fluid specified. ATF +4. Finally went to the dealer and got 5 qts. Cost me $7.50 per qt. The parts guy said it's dealer only, not released to the after-market. I don't know how long this type fluid has been in use, but this car is five years old now, so I know it's been around that long. Seems like just another way to stick it to customers to me.
I'm doing the 60K recommended maintenance and I've got over $200 in fluid, filters, and belts so far, and I haven't purchased the plug wires yet. The book says change them at 60K but I think I'll skip that until next plug change.
Maintaining a car ain't like it used to be.
