Message:		Profit MARGINS, not gross profit are a better indicator of how much a corporation is really making. This tells what they make on every dollar of investment. While I don't like paying $2.99 a gallon I don't really get upset and think that "big oil" is out to rip everyone off. The fact is, Exxon-Mobil, at 9.9% margin, is 127th in the margin ranking. Read the Washington Post article at the link for a good insight into who's making what. How about pharmaceutical company Merck, at 25.3% profit margin, or a cigarette maker at 22%, or Citicorp at 15.7%.
