And what happened in 1981?
Record numbers of bankruptcies - In terns if the percentage of people declaring them, there were more in '81 than in '05.
Obscene interest rates - 21% then for a home mortgage, 6% now. A new car cost you over 13% then, and it's anywhere from zero percent to around 7% today
Out of control inflation - 18-20% then, and with energy prices figured in today, a little over 6%.
RECESSION! - We were definitely in a recession then! Today, I'd hardly call this a recession. The economy going through a normal slowdown, yes, but nowhere near a recession.
Today is the same as 1981??? Were you an adult in 1981? |
