Robin, the oil is taxed at SEVERAL points in the process, NOT just at the pump. The govermental entites get nearly 40% of the TOTAL price of the crude, from what comes from the ground to the many different refined products (not just gasoline and Diesel fuel!)
Why don't YOU create an energy source, then have the government tell you that you have to create 100 different variations of that product for the market place just because the government dictates it?
Factor in inflation, and you are actually paying LESS per gallon now ($3.00) than you were in 1981 ($1.30), and that is a FACT. |
