well, its finally done. the crew cab is on to a new life with its new owner in new orleans and my new baby is finally in the driveway. took off at 4am last friday, drove from NM to san antonio to get the new truck. got her loaded on the dolly and headed for austin to get my kids for the long weekend. got them loaded and headed on to houston to spend the weekend with dad and the family. 20hours later, i am at my dads place, and a freakin zombie. i could hear the resonance of the crew cabs exhaust ringing in my ears hours after i got out of it. i really dont think 20 hours, basically straight thru, is what was intended to be done in a 3/4 ton camper special. my butt is still sore. spent the first day going over the new truck. changed the belts, fluids, played with the timing, and adjusted the carb. man she runs good. that old poly sings like a sewing machine when the tuning is right. what i got was a 1966 D100 sweptline short bed. pics are at the dodge link. shes got a poly under the hood, shifted on the column and a 3.55 rear gear. all stock, never hacked on. its had a repaint, and some reupholstery work done, and quite a bit of restoration/maintenance over the past 3 or 4 years by the previous owner. i plan to pick up where he left off, and maybe even take it to the next level. check out the pics and tell me what you think. took me 15.5 hours to get home having to take the side excursion to drop the kids off, and the new truck performed awsome. i left the crew cab in houston for the new owner. the new one averaged 12.5mpg on the trip, used a half quart of oil in the first leg to san antonio, but hasnt used a drop since, and i was running 70-80 the whole way. yeah, get this, at 75-80 it runs cooler and quieter then it does at 65-70 im guessing thats where she found her groove so i just ran with it. 32-3400rpm, 75-80mph and just purring like a kitten, got to love a good running poly. |
