Message:   Wish I knew eggsaclee, but I don't. Not having been in the Mopar fold very long I rely on this forum and other sources for info. One real good source is the truck itself. sometimes a tiny clue tells a lot. Look under washers and nuts for signs of how things were painted or plated. My newest aquistion is giving me some good insight. Remember, Dodge wasn't building collector trucks back then. What was cheapest and most expedient was usually what was done.

I do know for sure now that the earlier trucks has a plated hood hinge, probably a light cad, and the springs were gloss black. There is very clear evidence on my low miler for that. I saw no yellow zinc, Mostly painted parts under the hood. If you re-do your master cyls, you can shoot them in cast iron gray and try to keep the fluid off them. they will look real nice. some of the lids do have a yellow plating on them but that appears to be from re-manned parts. Hood latch should be plated. Exhaust mans can be blasted and shot with high temp 'cast blast' which simulates bare castings. I'm stretching the limits of my knowledge of Dodge procedures but put yourself in their place 40 yrs ago and think it through. They did it to get to Friday not to build a show truck. It had to make sense and be quick.
