Message:   Ground location varies according to vehicle model. All should have a flat woven ground strap or heavy wire ground between engine block and firewall. The battery negative cable is often connected to engine block/head as ground. The battery negative and positive can have hidden corrosion under the plastic coating, so peel some back at the battery lug and check for corrosion. Also a good idea to install a ground jumper wire from alternator case to good chassis ground point.

Several Dodge trucks have electrical components mounted to the inner fender panel, such as ballast resistor, voltage regulator and ignition module, plus starter solenoid or relay. It's a good idea to run a jumper wire ground from that fender panel to the firewall, instead of relying on rusty fender bolts to do the job.

Electronic ignition and voltage regulator both depend on a solid bare metal ground beteen component case and chassis. Again, sometimes an auxiliary ground wire has to be run from case mounting to firewall or fender.

Many pickups have a ground wire between the back of cab and the bed. It's down on the bottom in a perfect place for rust and corrosion. Faulty connection can knock out turn signals and rear lights.

You also want a good ground from dashboard gauge panel to dash. Light fixtures usually get their ground through the fixture mounting screws, so that area has to be a clean bare metal ground. You can get a dielectric grease at the parts store and put a dab under screw heads where you have a ground connection to fight later corrosion.
