I have a rotted out fender lip on the Townie that is on the list of 'To do' items. I got to thinking this morning. The two usual methods are trying to weld in a new fender lip from a donor, or trying the cut and paste picture puzzle thing of adding in little pieces one by one to make the contours.

Why not bend up a piece of copper tube to match lip contours, jam it down to fender lip and then MIG weld directly over it to deposit metal and build the lip back up? MIG won't stick to the copper so it could be removed when welding is done. That leaves nothing but new metal welded in place, grind it down and a done deal.
