In February, before Cerberus took over, Chrysler announced that they would cut 13,000 jobs, mostly by attrition. They had cut 2,000 manager jobs up to this announcement, this cut is 11,000, equaling the 13,000 announced under the old management.
The new management team at Chrysler LLC, in place for less than two months, is drawing no salary this year. Their pay will be based upon performance.
They have already lowered the price of every new 2008, below the price of lessor equipped 2007 models.
There is a certain point where economics plays a part, if they are losing money and they lower the price more, then they will lose even more money, placing ALL 140,000 jobs in jeopardy. Chrysler Products are already lower priced than the Japanese and domestic models, if you shop wisely.
The answer is better products, better warranty's (they lead the world in the Lifetime Warranty) and fair pricing.
What is ridiculous is expecting to be employed for life at a wage that doesn't make economic sense. Chrysler is in business to sell vehicles, not to provide jobs. The fact that they do provide high paying jobs is a good by product of the process. All employees are being offered a chance, for the first time ever, to participate in profit sharing. If the designers do their part and the managers do their jobs correctly then the quality and productivity that the assembly line workers put into the product will pay off for all.
Make the consumer happy and they will be back.
It's economics 101.
The new owners should be given a chance to make it work, complaining about past issues, that these guys had nothing to do with, is not productive, complaining about new efforts to correct the past, seems odd.... |
