Message:   MoPar Norm:
Any tips or details on replacing the rear main oil seal (with engine in truck)? The 1971 MoPar factory truck service manual states thus:
UPPER:
1. Install a new rear main bearing oil seal in cylinder block so that both ends protrude.
2. Tap seal down into position, using Tool C-3625 (I do not have this tool). with bridge removed until tool is seated in bearing bore.
3. Hold the tool in this position and cut off portion of seal that extends above the block on both sides.
LOWER:
1. Install a new seal in seal retainer so ends protrude.
2. Install bridge on tool and tap the seal down into position with Tool C-3625 until tool is seated (Bridge part looks like a piece of flat steel that when placed over seal retainer and tapped in the middle can pressure the bi-seal evenly on both sides).
3. Trim off that portion of the seal that protrudes above the cap.
SIDE SEALS:
1. Apply mineral spirits or diesel fuel to the side seals.
2. Install seals immediately in the seal retainer grooves.
3. Install seal retainer and tighten screws to 30 foot-pounds. FAILURE TO PRE-OIL THE SEALS WILL RESULT IN AN OIL LEAK.

Note: (Words above in parenthesis are mine)Oil pan can come off without removing anything else. Any recommendations on oil pan gaskets types, adhesives, etc. so this sucker doesn't leak in the next 365 days.
Thanks man.
