Message:   I have purchased a utiline bed and will be bringing it home soon.
What I would really like to know, is what color was the wood in the bed painted when the truck was new?
I have seen some restorations where the wood is done in high gloss spar varnish, which looks really nice, but I am almost 100% certain that the trucks had painted beds, and none of the big 3 would have invested time and money for spar varnish due to the expense of the spar varnish and labor costs to apply it.
Also those of you who have re-done the utiline bed on your truck what did you use paint or spar varnish, and how many coats did you put on?
