Message:   OK. Dad bought that rig new. I went with him to pick it up and basically did most of the breakin time. I had just quit my job because I had to report to Uncle Sam. Just one month of driving it. All Dad said was to be there to pick him up when needed. He was doing custom hay baling so I guess it was probably a good thing he didn't break down during that time. Actually we still had the '57 TWPW and he probably was driving that. I took it to Long Beach, WA one day and if you know anything about that beach it is reaaaalllly soft on the far north end. I nearly found that out the hard way but just gassed 'er hard and swung her on around and headed back south without too much trouble. Have been very careful there ever since.

I traded Dad my '73 about 8-9 years ago for it since I would have preferred a Sweptline instead of the '73 although it was a very good rig. My brother and I from day one would offer Dad 1200 bucks for it until it got pretty old. He was just using it to haul wood and the '73 needed nearly the work this one did, or so I thought. The PW actually was pretty bad. Rot all over the body. The funny thing was, as bad as it was every where else the floors had almost no rust in them. Cowl was nearly gone and no floor in the bed at all. I picked up a pretty nice '68 D100 and used the cab/bed on mine.

The drive train was in real good shape but I had different plans for it. Mo power is always a good thing. And I wanted an OD/gear splitter. I looked at US Gear, Gear Vendors and Advance Adapters. The only one that would do everything that I wanted was the the AA. Bad thing is they wouldn't build it to fit a Dodge transmission. Only Ford or Chevy. That is why I ended up with a Chevy gear box. The AA OD/gear splitter works not only in that function but also as a trans adapter. I have an SM465/205 combo bolted in place behind the OD. It works pretty well and fits like a glove.

The engine is a 400 with 440 crank and rods. Has way more power and gets better fuel mileage than the 383.

Those are the original '67 PW eblems on the '69-'71 hood, I had the '68-'69 grille in at one time also. I have decided I will go with the earlier 4 headlight look eventually. The pie plates were always my least favorite. I will probaly get that done about the time Norm gets his on the road and puts together a Camp Dodge again.

It also has a PTO winch, 8R19.5 tires, 35 gallon extra fuel tank where the spare used to be and powerlock rear. I did swap the rear axle for a 60HD out of an '83 1 ton Dad just happened to have around.

I updated the wiring with a painless kit and all new Isspro gauges plus a couple extra ones. Eventually going to put in more. I ended up with about 15K in it. I did everything except machine work and upholstery. We built the engine at my cousins over in Bend, OR. Actually he is shop foreman at a NAPA machine shop and we put it together there after hours.
