I also have a 96 3500 4x2 Club Cab Diesel.
I also have in front of me right now 14 weight certificates showing the tare weight ranging from 6,980 to 7,460.
However, that is including the following:
Driver on board, sometimes a passenger (~200-350#)
Fuel in TWO tanks (min 20g, 10 ea tank, ~140#)
60 gal bed mounted Transfer Flow Inc fuel tank / toolbox combo (~220#)
Mechanics Toolbox (~60#)
Jacks/blocks/bars (~70)
Misc cargo (~100#)
Total 990#
6980 - 990 = 6,190#
which is real damn close to the FSM spec of 6,165#
On the high side of the tare, that is easily accounted for by up to 75g additional fuel and/or the passenger.
Its simply not credible that a new vintage, light gauge sheetmetal, all plastic, 2wd truck would have a tare of 7,000#+....or more than 1,000# above the factory spec.
Maybe gravity is stronger there in the center of the continent? |
