Message:   In a year-end message to employees, Chrysler Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli reflects on an eventful year and looks to the challenges ahead. The following are excerpts from his message:

"It’s been a year unlike any other for Chrysler. Under our new ownership structure, we made history by becoming the first privately held American automaker in more than 50 years. Building upon the Recovery and Transformation Plan structure and processes, we have put in a solid operating plan for 2008 that is fundamental for the development of our long-term product plans. Working together with the UAW, we signed a landmark labor contract that provides a framework to improve our competitiveness. ...

"In addition to all the day-to-day challenges we faced in our business, Chrysler and its employees never lost sight of those in need. Reflecting on our new status, our philanthropic fund changed its name to The Chrysler Foundation, and continued its work to strengthen the communities where our employees and customers live, work and play. Our employees brought pride to Chrysler though their involvement in everything from disaster relief efforts for the victims of the Florida tornados and the California fires, to ongoing efforts such as Focus: Hope, the United Way campaign and Toys for Tots. New initiatives like the KaBoom Playground building project and the Freedom Calls program provided more opportunities to get involved. Those who serve others serve this company well, and for that you have my heartfelt thanks. ...

"I want to personally thank all of you for your dedication and efforts during 2007. Since joining Chrysler in August, I have been extremely impressed with the passion, intellect and loyalty Chrysler people bring to the task at hand. Let’s all come back in 2008 with renewed commitment to return our company to its rightful position as a leader in the automotive industry. In the meantime, I hope you make time during this season to enjoy the warmth and love of good friends and family. From my family to yours, please have a safe and joyous holiday season."
