Message:   I have a 1987 1/2 ton 4X4 with a 3 speed automatic that I use for plowing snow. Was going to back up the other day and when I threw 'er in reverse I heard a big BANG. Thought I broke a U joint. All 3 forward gears work great, but no reverse. When I put the gear selecter in 'R' I can hear the engine drop a few revs. I would really hate to have to drop the trans as everything is rusted and will probably break, like coolant lines, linkages, cross member bolts, etc.... Plus, the transfer case is attached and looks like it will be one heavy s.o.b. Anyway, does this sound like a broken low/reverse band or ???????? any ideas?????

Thanks, Dan-o
