The current platform for the 300/Magnum/Charger is a better quality, mechanical platform. But the design of the Charger is not the best.
Nice, but not this:
And while the 300 and Magnum were "hot" sellers when first introduced, poor planning and anticipation caused them to be back ordered and many sales were lost. Now that production has finally caught up with the sales of 3 years ago, sales have dropped, creating a glut of these cars. All are over due for a facelift. The basic Chrysler problem is this: Great Concepts cars that are either timidly brought to market too slow, in too few numbers or which are changed by commitee before introduction and have no apparent connection with the concept vehicle except for the nameplate (ie: the Charger Concept vs. the actual "charger" production vehcile, or the Jeep Compass, which in concept form was a lean hot looking rally type vehicle, similar to the Caliber, but was changed into a bloated looking toad of a car, overweight and under powered and just plain ugly...
They're having the same problem now with the Jeep Wranglers, 65,000 back orders, they missed the demand forecast by about..let's see, 65,000??? Many folks are giving up and buying something else. Jeep enthusist are demanding a Jeep truck, the Gladiator Concept
They are being told, "we aren't building this, go buy the Dakota" Frankly, they ruined the Dakota and anyone at Chrysler who thinks an IFS Dakota serves the needs of a Jeep driver should be fired.
Meanwhile they teased us with this:
And this:
But we got this
Now if they screw up this:
It will be one more nail in the coffin.
