Message:   assumption is the mother of all bad things in life. at least for me it is right now. i finally got my new tires to go on my custom rims for my crew cab. but my studs were too short to run the alum wheels, or at least shorter then what i felt cool with, so i sent it to the shop to have the studs changed. im going back with all right hand thread and new lug nuts and all. simple right??????WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! upon removing the passengers front hub the inner bearing fell out in pieces and the brake pads were worn alomst to the rivets. drivers side hub came off great, but during the shoe replacement the fact that the brake springs came off without the use of tools raised a flag. then while at the machine shop to get the new lugs swaged in a crack was noticed between two of the lug holes, so the machinist wouldnt proceed without another drum. then we get to the back wheels. drivers side hub came off like the passengers front with the bearing tumbling out on to the ground, the wheel cyilinder is also seaping. passengers side rear hub shows considerable wear to the bearings and the races, 2 studs were loose in thier holes and have worn the hubs hole to the point a new stud wont press in and once again the brake springs can be removed without tools also the drum has deep grooves that cant be machined out. and of course no one anywhere has the parts i need in stock, everything has to be ordered.

so, my simple stud change has turned into new inner and outer wheel bearings and seals on all four corners, rebult wheel cyilinders on all 4 corners, new brake shoes on all 4 corners, new brake hardware kits for all 4 corners, one replacement front drum and one replacement rear drum and hub from the local salvage yard, and new replacement hub nut lock washers from the dealer for the rear hubs. man i do not want to see the bill for this one. the truck has already been in the shop for 3 days, and looks like its gonna spend the weekend there as well waiting on ordered parts from 5 different locations to arrive. good thing= the trucks rolling stock will be all new, including wheels and tires... bad thing= i assumed it would be a simple, and relativly cheap quick stud change. boy i hate when i assume things!!!!
