All I can tell y'all is that it's as described, Cummins P/N 4089648. Fel-Pro has many new gasket technologies nowadays & I believe this is one of them.

There was nothing visible showing that it was 2 steel shims sandwiched together, just one. The composite was very soft, similar to graphite, plus some sorta soft plastic polymer stuff in places, vulcanized or whatever into a single gasket. The plasticy stuff is red, composite is dark blue-grey.

Doubtless the composite has some kind of lateral fibers to connect it to the innermost & outermost parts. The steel shim, though attached to composite, is effectively stand-alone, aligned & held in place by head bolts & torque. Same with the composite. No real need for a bullet proof connection between them as no lateral misalignment forces exist when assembled.

Wouldn't matter much if a gasket was 2 piece, one for compression, one for galleries, at least in this engine design. It impressed me as being pretty fragile before installation.
