Message:   "the brake system was designed by Mopar engineers the same as the engine's, and once they had a good system they would just use it more on different vehicles, the same company that make rod bearings for ford, chevy also make them for chrysler, and as the small differnce in engine design the small difference in brake design"

robin, we have been over this before... i apreciate your desire to keep things all mopar BUT

to avoid confusion for the original poster:
there is NO direct cross-over built by chrysler that allows a mopar disc brake caliper to mount directly to our factory solid axle without some form of complicated adaptor and manufacturing.

this is why the AVAILABLE kits use a GM caliper. the kit manufacturers figured out what rotor to use and then cut a flat steel plate with two holes to mount the GM caliper - simple enough.

to mount a mopar caliper is much more complicated. the mopar calipers use a special adaptor that allows the caliper to slide on the top of the adaptor. to accommodate the mopar caliper adaptor to our solid axle you would need an adapter to mate mopar adaptor to our axles. in essense an adaptor for mopar caliper adapter that corresponds to the rotor diameter you plan on using.

For D100's front brakes -

ugly truckling had a kit that used mopar calipers and dakota rotors with shims for the metric bearing - this kit is NOT available.

the Scarebird kit uses a bracket to adapt GM calipers with a late model Ford rotor over the original 5 lug drum hub (you knock off the drum) - no shims for the hub and you use your original bearings. pretty easy kit to install.

the AAJ kit uses a special bracket to adapt a GM caliper and shims to adapt an Aspen rotor. you must modify your spindle knuckle to make room for the aspen rotor by grinding the bottom ears and threading the bottom holes.

IMHO - the scarebird kit is the cleanest and safest kit AVAILABLE followed closely by the AAJ kit.

i have the AAJ kit and i am reasonably satisfied with the final results and VERY pleased with AAJ's service after the sale.

you'll want to use a proper dual pot master cylinder with an appropriate proportioning valve for any brake upgrade.

Robin, if there is any easy way to use junk yard parts on our truck's solid axle that allow the front brakes to be all mopar i would like to know SPECIFICS. specifics such as make and model and how that part fits.

Ben
