Message:   Terry's suggestion for pilot hole serves another function in frame drilling:

Because you have to drill from the bottom it's impossible to oil the pilot bit. The solution is to dip it in chassis grease which then melts some with drilling to lubricate cutting edges. If it's smoking away you're in too big of a hurry, using too much he man on it! Once small pilot hole is drilled you can then lubricate with oil from the top, with it dribbling down through the pilot hole to save your bit.
