Message:   Well, y'all, it looks like I'm facing some pretty serious internal engine repairs. You might remember a month or so ago I posted with questions on a poor running poly: smoking out the exhaust as well as top end of engine. Compression tests showed all cylinders except for # 5 were above 115 lbs. #5 was at 20lbs, 25 with a squirt of oil. Leakdown on #5 was 95%. After pulling the heads, found that there appeared to be minimal leakage between most cylinders, #5 blowing out on lower side of head towards exhaust manifold. After new head gaskets, #5 only improved to 30lbs without adding oil.
During disassembly, I also found a bent pushrod on #6 exhaust, which didn't help matters much.

I'm going to pull the engine back apart in a week or so and knock out #5 piston assembly and have a look-see at the rings.
While I had the heads off the first go around, it appeared that some of the valves were more recessed in their seats than others so I'm assuming I'm not far away, if not already needing a valve job. Despite all of this, the engine is still pushing 50lbs oil pressure at hot idle and ran pretty well.

What would be a guess at a complete rebuild cost: $1500 - 1800 (or more)? I'm considering trying to find a good running "take out" poly to just drop in and go. What can be expected to pay for a good runner?

Sorry for such a long winded post, as usual!
