Message:   .... that, although road salt is bad news for sheet
metal, it melts into the snow and ice pack very
quickly and lowers its freezing point. In the North
East, especially up near the Great Lakes region, the
sand and cinders can literally be blown off of the
roads [think of wind's effect on soil erosion...] so
if not used in conjunction with road salt.... its a
waste of materials.

My '03 W2500 Ram has 25,000 miles on it. I have had
the undercarriage sprayed with RustStop three times
since owning it. I'm very good at cleaning the road
salt off of it. I really don't put any real miles
on it during the winter as its main use is to plow
my lane. It is starting to show some rust at the
pinch welds on the left rear wheel well. I had this
same area [actually the entire box side] attended
to three years ago . Its not just a Dodge thing.
I was talking to an '05 F250 owner who is on his
second go around with rusty door bottoms and some
lower fender corrosion. He was selling an '86 D150
truck with 144K miles on it.... 60K of which was put
on it in the NY climate.... the truck is one of the
cleanest I've seen. Newer vehicles seem to be made
with wimpy-gauge sheet metal.
