i sorta liked the 2.0L in my neon , put over 200k miles on it, only did regular maint on it, had to change a few sensors, thats it. plus it got 33mpg
yeah v8's are great, i got the 383 in the D200, but ya know i wouldn't mind if i had a modern small block with ALL the sensors, computer and the other BS, including the smog.
ya get into it in the morning, turn the key, hear the fuel system charge up, start it, cram it into reverse, back out of the driveway, pull it into drive and away ya go.....20 seconds MAX
now with the 383, i pump, pump, pump the accelerator,
try to start it, pump, pump, pump some more, it fires,(on hi idle) without any oil pressure, yea! .......thats gotta be good. kick it off hi idle, wait for it to warm up a bit. now i put it in drive, oh yeah, the torq converter had drained, ill wait a bit in neutral to fill that up.....ok now i can go. dont step on the gas too much, it will back-fire and char my air filter......keyrist!
goin' down the road is like playing pinball i go form side to side, only thing keepin me on the road is a small hunk of reflective plastic that is glued to the center line.
then and only then i can do a servey of all the knocks and squeeks, and compare that to a running inventory i have in my head of the last time i drove it.
after a few miles of utter panic wondering who i would have to call to tow me home when it dies (that would be you TERRY) i can settle down and relax.
i turn on the AM radio, where i pick up most of my spanish. those blocks of wood between the bed and frame, those are made of madera
after a bit of driving a smile grows on my face, knowing that i am driving a pretty cool rig.
i poke the horn button, hear the 70 roadrunner horn "beep beep" and away i go.
druthers.... oh yeah druthers, hmmm i dont know. still on the fence |
