I asked a similar question a few forums back about '55 vs '56 C3-PW. I have a C3-PW with serial number 83947680 and it has 6-volt and a non-synchro transmission. Previous and original owner said it's a '56. Quite interesting that Eric's C3-PW has an even later serial number but is still 6-volt. Vaughn, is your 12-volt factory original?

Is it possible that the 12-volt, synchro trans, 3rd series bed, and other changes started with the C4-PW model designation?

I've found quite a few '55 dates on my truck, see below link for pictures and extracts from the past forum discussions on this subject.
