This is one of the fabled Bell System pole setting trucks. These trucks have multiple winches in the aluminum utility bed that run the boom. The boom can be folded over the roof of the truck for travel, and there is a port hole for viewing the boom out the roof of the cab. There is also a PTO driven box in the front of the frame that would drive a post hole digger so this truck could dig the hole for the pole before it was set in place. The frame has a lot of extra gussets that were added at the time of the phone company conversion to help deal with the extra stress of the boom and all that weight.
