Owned at one time by Portland General Electric (PGE), previous owner was Douglas McHugh, who bought it from Chambers Motors in Gresham, Oregon. After doing a tune up on the truck on a hilltop near Laytonville, CA in the early 1980's, with parking brake accidentally disengaged, the truck rolled down the hill, went over a cliff, caught air & land nose first on the front bumper in a canyon. The truck was yarded out of the canyon by a crawler. It was then completely disassembled a couple years later by Mr. McHugh & the current owner to assess the extent of the damage. It was then left in part on the rural property. A couple years later, Mr. McHugh decided to move to Australia. He told the current owner he could have the truck if he would get it off his property.
The haul-out of all the disassembled parts was a precarious & dangerous project as written in a Power Wagon Advertiser article in the early 1990's.
The truck, in disassembled form sat indoors for years until 2014, when the current owner started to restore it. The cab has been restored to original condition & painted to factory color. The frame has been laser straightened to factory dimensions. A replacement bell housing was finally obtained after two years of searching nationwide. The complete drive-train has been restored & reassembled, as has the brake system.
The speedometer & heater have also been restored. Have installed Acousti-Shield insulation to the inside of the cab from Quiet Ride Solutions of Stockton, CA. Am currently restoring the cooling system.
