Question on 4.89 gears and tire size

I finally got over to Rock Springs, WY this weekend to see Steve Wataha's latest Power Wagon project. It has 7.50x16 tires mounted on stock looking rims with the wide lock rings. This truck appears to have the 4.89 gears, too. We found a 4.89 ring and pinion set laying on the bed. Did Power Wagons with 4.89 gears all come with 7.50x16 tires, or were they available with 9.00x16 tires? Weren't the 7.50x16 tires mounted on rims with narrow lock rings? The rancher told Steve that the truck used to have larger tires on it, which we assume meant the 9.00x16 size.

By the way, I got to drive my old '49 Power Wagon about 20 miles. What a sweet truck since he restored it.
