Windshield Frame

Can anyone give me some tips on how to see if my windshield regulator works? Just not sure how to go about it without dissassembling. It has a good tape and the windshield frame is good as far as I can tell. I'm just curious if there are some warning signs I should look for before I start cranking the handle as I'm not quite ready to get into taking it apart for full rebuild. Thanks in advance.
