Same problem in CA. My insurance used to cover me, not the vehicle, now each vehicle must be insured to be registered. The only upside is last year I had an accident that was my fault, the person I hit was uninsured and wanted cash on the spot, I said no, lets exchange insurance information, as I walked to my truck to get my information he ran to his and took off! ha!ha! It is a misdemeanor to not have insurance in CA, the down side id if I was hit by him I would have been out of luck. (but I would have followed him!)
