Under the new Alabama law, it is illegal for a uninsured motorist to operate a motor vehicle.Thats motorist ,not vehicle !If i purchase vehicle insurance ,I'm still not insured as a motorist !
Since I am single, but own several vehicles and can only drive one at a time, it would seem I could purchase liability insurance to cover just me as the motorist without having to pay a seperate coverage for each vehicle that may or maynot even be driven that month. I have inquired but all insurance companies say they don't offer a blanket policy for (a) motorist that owns several vehicles.
What buggs me the most is that liability would seem to be a coverage of the operator, not the vehicle since they would not repair or replace the vehicle insured, but rather insure against damage caused by the motorist.
So how can they pass a law requiring a motorist to be insured but the insurance companies refuse to insure the motorist himself ? shouldn't it be based on your driving record and not how many or type vehicles you own?
Lets face it, its the motorist thats liable, not the vehicle !
