This photo is my Dad's 1937 Cord. It is front wheel drive with a 120 hp flathead V-8.

I read an article in the Auburn Cord Dusenberg club newsletter about a fellow in the 1940's who bought a complete engine and front end from the remaining Cord factory parts. He grafted the entire engine, transmission, and front axle assembly into the trunk and rear seat area of his Cord sedan. This gave him four-wheel-steering and four-wheel-drive powered by two independent V-8 engines. I'm guessing he retooled the rear engine to rotate in the opposite direction so the wheels on the ground would all turn in the same direction. I don't know for sure. The article did not describe the steering mechanism. Shifting the two transmissions was easily synchonized, because the 4 speed manual transmission is shifted by electrically controlled vacuum diaphrams

I promise this is not a April Fool's joke.

The car still exists today. The owner took great pride in removing the second engine and restoring the car to 2WD. Personally, I thnk he undid a unique work of art.
