I had this concern when I was installing Mac's unit. His truck has been converted to an 8 volt system and it works fine. I tried to put a warning light in line on the wire harness but it pulled to much voltage and would'nt engage the OD, so I had to take it out. I still need to go get a small LED type light and wire it in so you will always be aware of when the OD is on(you can't back up with it on).
